my Abut. mega has many trailing shoots - it has to be reduced in height too - its 8ft tall in 3-4 main stems. I have heard "Pruning: In early spring cut back flowered growths to two to four buds from the framework branches."
Should I really trim it back to the main stems, it has been beautiful and magnificent for 2 years but has really go too big!

I have been growing this for several years, trained and tied in against a trellis (see my photos). Any shoots growing beyond the allotted space I have pruned right out and tied in replacements. This has been done at any time during the growing season. Hope this helps
