i have autumn raspberry canes, all you need do with these is cut the whole lot down in spring , as they fruit on new growth, much easier to manage.if you have this type they will fruit after the main season so you should be able to tell what type you have.

Thank you Steve & Owdboggy ~ I appreciate the help.
Owdboggy ~ I apologize, I explained before that its easier since my stroke since some of my fingers have no feeling and it helps to not keep hitting the shift button. I would never shout.

Have you got any supports to tie the canes to? If so, you can tie each cane up so it doesn't flop over. It will help you when they fruit, too! Sorry if I didn't explain very clearly before - I'll try to do better next time, Ma'am!

Spritzhenry ~ Yes it has some sticks and some wire supports.
Thanks for calling me Ma'am. I was born in the deep south and Sir and Ma'am were used liberally, nice to hear it again.

OOOh! I didn't know, honestly! I am not really a mind-reader - but glad it pleased you.

Im not a mind reader as well and I think that's probably a good thing many times, ha ha.
I have a saying on my desk that says "Of all the things I've missed in my life, I miss my mind the most." Ha

Sorry Harli, ma'am. I know the feeling (or lack of it ) in fingers. I have had to stop doing my embroidery because I can no longer hold the needles, in my case it is arthritis which is the problem.
Still, on the raspberry front, if you have some Rose fertiliser, now is a good time to feed your canes if you think you need to.

Owdboggy ~ Thank you, I do have some rose fertiliser. I have to say going to the garden shop was daunting. So many to choose from and they all say they are best of course.
I too have arthitis. I have had both knees replaced (titanium). Now I have spinal arthritis so Im afraid my cane will be with me the rest of my days. Growing old isn't for sissy's.

The old canes are the ones which fruited last year. Now they would look very tattered and grey/brown. The new canes do not need any pruning unless they are very tall, in which case cut of the top if needed. It would do no harm if you are not sure to leave all the cames on until they have finished fruiting for this year, then remove everything except the obviously new growth then in late Fall.
PS. Is it possible to turn off your Caps Lock button, It does rather look as if you are shouting. Sorry! Smile!
