There are black peppers - Piper Nigrum- but I gather this is not what you planted?

Red peppers do not go black en-route to being red, as already said there are black peppers.

This looks like one of the many varieties that turn purple-black during the later "green" stage--the dark purple veins on the leaves are a giveaway. Some of these peppers turn a normal orange or red when they are ripe, and some turn a chocolate brown color. And, of course, the can always be eaten in their unripe state, just like any pepper.

Well what we can learn about ordinary sweet peppers! I had no idea :) I shall have to try growing some next year.

I was just looking at those leaves again.... Are they peppers or Aubergines?

Aubergine fruits are smoother though arn't they?

Some varieties yes, others no.

Oh ok, guess we'll have to wait and see if Tinman posts again in a couple of weeks with further photos for us to look at! :)

Previous question
Could it be part of the ripening process and they are eventually going to turn red?? Have you left one to find out, it would be interesting to do.....:)
