Have just 'blitzed' my garden and now have a lot of empty space to fill. Having failed so often, I need advice about appropriate and easy to manage planting. Are there people who will do this? Am not talking about garden design, I just want to know which plants to put against a west-facing fence, or in a shady damp corner. From previous experience, what I want to grow dies, and what I don't want to grow thrives! So where do I go to get this advice without paying an arm and a leg? Do garden centres do this?

It did for me. The book is the RHS "Plants for Places" published by Dorling Kindersley. £1.19 + £2.80 p&p for a used copy. I've bought lots of books from that seller, Awesome Books. And the next one down - Greener Books - too.

Great! I'm sure you can work out what you want and what will suit your conditions yourself without paying an "expert", and you'll have an interesting time and more fun doing it.

Hello and welcome to GOY Stephsmiff. Yes you can hire someone to look over your garden and design something but it will cost you?
There is a lot of help to be gotten free on here from members who grow the plants in conditions like yours. Also if you go to the bottom of the page and click on a letter you will find several ideas pages, click on S and then click on Shade plants or W for wet soil plants or Ferns may be of interest to you. Also there are pages showing back garden ideas, small garden ideas, patio idea, shrubs, perennial, water features and many more that members have submitted.
