I had beautiful display of small drumstick mauve primula in my alpine bed now well gone except for their big leaves - had them a couple of years now. They look a bit congested. When is a good time to split them? Think I read these guys don't like to be touched/moved.

Divide in early Spring according to my book, but I shall probably do mine in October if its still mild.

Thanks Bamboo :o)
Does it damage them to remove some of the leaves at this time of year ?

I wouldn't have thought so, TT, but not if you're intending to separate the clump this autumn.

I moved some successfully in August when we moved house one time and didn't find they objected. I'd go for early autumn.
