all the leaves on my camelia have turned black and started dropping after a very good flowering season, the plant is ten years old and on close inspection there are a lot of fine cracks appearing at the base on the plant. Can you give any idea as to the cause of the plants sudden demise, the same has happened to my holly bushes which are potted.

Damage of some kind may have allowed foot and butt rot to take hold - frozen ground during the winter could cause that kind of damage if you're in a particularly cold part of the country. Strimmer damage is another cause.
