We've had questions about cats being a nuisance in gardens before, and members who have used the sonic devices all say how helpful they are in keeping cats out.
Good luck with your efforts!

I have used a sonic device in the past , it did work quite well but my young grandchildren could hear the noise( we couldn't) and they found it painful to their ears, we just switched it off when they visited.

I have a sonic device that I bought because of one neighbour's cat which thought that my garden was the best thing since soft toilet paper. Didn't work at all. Then I found out that the cat is deaf.

Chickens will see them off. I've had no trouble with cat poo since the girls moved in. Either that or you'll have to get your own cat!!

...or get a dog!

I had problems last year in a newly created border, the cats seemed to favour the soft easily dug soil, a friend suggested an empty coffee jar ( or similar ) pierce the lid, and fill with Jeyes Fluid, then dig it into the area favoured by the cats and bury upto its lid, you can also ( if its possible in your garden ) spray jeyes Fluid onto any structure ( ie fence ) near to the `adopted litter tray`, they hate the smell and it masks the odour that cats leave after doing their `business`. and the Jeyes fluid will last ages. I don`t have cat problems anymore !!
Hope this helps....

I'll try that Paul. Sonic doesn't work on a deaf cat, my own cat puts the kettle on and makes tea for visiting cats, my dog, Ed, is not allowed in the more organised part of the garden so I'll try Jeyes.

Hiya, my latest move is to get a margerine tub, peirce the lid, upover, so the sharp bits point up. Half filll it with vinegar and set into soil at the cats favourite dumping area. [ Jagged bits upover to prevent rain diluting vinegar.]
Works for me, and its cheap
