growing onions from seed
Dordogne, France
we have grown onions from seed- bedfordshire champion and white lisbon. I followed the packet instructions and grew them inside in an unheated bedroom planted on 19th january. I have seperated them now so we have one little plant in each pot, however the stems are about 2" long and they look a bit straggly. Is this normal or have I forced them too quickly and if so what should I do now? thanks

Don't forget to harden them off properly or the shock of being put outside will kill them off. Have you got a cold frame? Or could you rig up a temporary one?

You can plant your onions out when you like, but back them up with a sowing of seed in your raised beds in March.
