Is it common for wasps and bees to hover and stay in laurel hegdes...... a large amount not just one or two.

Around here that would mean that they have built a nest in the bush, but I think they look for more shelter in the UK, don't they?

A lot of people think that Hoverflies are wasps, google to see images and check that it's not them you're seeing.
If it IS them LEAVE them because they're valuable pollinators.

I asked a similar question the other day and it turns out that they are hoverflies. I spent ages looking for a nest. Not sure how to link to my question but if you can find it there is a picture of the insect.
