I have a large none clinging ivy growing up a wall. This ivy is a pleasure as the blackbirds always nest in it and in the Autumn the flowers provide welcome nectar to many, many insects even when the frost come. However the sport I put up is way to weak and I need to replace it with something much stronger. Can anyone give me ideas for this. As cheaply as possible please but I am willing to put some work in.

I think Dongle wants to replace the support, but keep the ivy?

Yes I know, but it's unlikely its ivy - don't want to recommend support without knowing what the plant actually is.

Good point. Photo then?

Probably not an ivy then - only way to get a non clinging variety is to take a cutting off mature growth, which will then produce an upright bush. Please post photo for id so best form of support can be suggested.
