I intend buying a Denniston's Superb plum tree bare roots, pixy rootstock and grow it in a planter 27"dia x 18" . It's a maiden & I understand could be up to 6ft. Can I put it into the planter or does it have to be in a smaller container initially. I wouldn't want it to grow much bigger than 7ft.

A plum on a pixie rootstock will still get to about 3m tall. The way to be sure to keep it at about 6 ft is to buy a pyramid pruned plum tree and maintain the pruning.

A google search ( pyramid plum tree ) should give you a list of suppliers and advice on the pruning.

Pimpernel, thanks for the information
I am buying it from Keepers. He said it will be about 6ft. but to cut it back to 3ft. when I get it, so I presume I will have to prune it to a a pyramid shape.
