Virginia Creeper

United Kingdom

The end wall of my house faces south-east and is mortar render on top of stone and is a bit ugly! I am thinking about goring a virginia creeper up it to disguise it. Will this damage the wall in any way?

All plants growing in to walls will damage them. Virginia creeper does least damage. The other alternative is to put wire supports on the wall first and choose a non clinging climber.

I would suggest putting up galvanised wire mesh sections which you can attach via hooks drilled into the rendered wall. You can then use these to support non-clinging climbers whilst also being able to take them down (climbers atttached) should you need to repaint or rerender the wall.

How do I say thanks?
