This is a Crocosmia bulb I have just dug up in my garden. Most of them are like this. Do I split them up or replant as they are ? Bit of a mystery to me !

Sorry, Marge! When I read the question, for some reason, I didn't see the part where you ask what to do with it! For whatever it is worth, I concur with Sbg.

Agree with Tugbrethil and seaburngirl, these are the years new corms, on large cumps i divide every few years and i will do this at the backend, rather than separating each one i just slice the top of the crown off with the spade going down aprox two inches and replant, then i will discard the rest of the crown, this works for me and flowering is always good.

Even more advice thanks. Will get slicing tomorrow.

What happened to the plant? It should still be flowering at this time of year and then needs a few weeks for the bulb to store energy for next year with just the leafs on.
As said, Crocosmia grow from new corns, so the older corns get smaller and rot off and the shiny new ones grow.

Pretty normal for Crocosmia, I believe. There's not many other corms that stack up like that!
