I'd like to plant a few (3 or 4), conifers for screening but don't want ones that will grow more than 6 feet. What ones will I buy, plus how long to get to this height, and how far apart do you plant them, Thanks, L.

Taxus or yew would make a superb screening hedge but as mentioned would be slow growing and also poisonous. Whilst Thuja would be fast growing, is easily clipped to remain manageable.

Most plants in the garden are poisonous, Jimmytheone.
You can't let that stop you from planting them though, rarely will pets or children graze on plant life.

Look into the Taxus varieties, they are shorter in height but that will probably mean slower growing.
Either way they're a beautiful plant and would be perfect for you.
