Lol...I've got other Eryngiums...but didn't connect this one at all...in my head! Oh dear...a senior moment indeed!
Thank you, Windy...I'll go and look it up!

Hi, it looks like Eryngium bourgatii to me...

I think you're right, Nick...but which one? LOL. I still cannot remember! It's supposed to be totally hardy...but sadly was not!

Possibility the -15C we had over winter may of finished it off. Alot of 'hardy' things have died but generally -15C would finish many things off.

Too true! The flower was a deep, vivid blue so it should be easy to track it down. I've just been busy doing other things!
Thanks Nick.:-)))

Ours all survived the last winter with temperatures lower than -15˚C for weeks at a time. However, we dug them out about a month ago as they were taking over the whole of the bed they were in.

Often the difference in surviving (or not) extreme cold is drainage. A plant sitting in wet soil is more likely to succumb than one in well-drained conditions, especially from areas with dry winters

Well we do have well drained, moisture retentive soil Andrew but, in this case, I think it was because we had a thick layer of snow before the heavy frosts so the plants were actually protected.
