Schefflera after black frost in Florida

Florida, United States Us

I have several outside schefflera bushes. They have been planted only in May last year and are very tiny and weak. Several frosts this winter almost killed them, I am not sure what to do. The leaves almost all dropped or blackened and wilted, some branches still alive though. Should I wait until spring to see if they come back and prune, or should I prune a little now? Thank you

Ukrworld - I am in the UK, and I'm sorry to hear that you have suffered frost too. We had a very cold period and lots of us have got damaged plants. What I and others over here are doing is to leave well alone and see if the plants recover. Wait a few more weeks and then look for encouraging signs of new growth. Then cut back to that and feed your plants.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

I am having the same problem. I planted about 60 of these plants. I have about 20 still in pots, they all look dead. I however just looked at a few of them in the pots. They are sprouting again at the very bottom, so ill probably be pruning and starting from scratch. Hope this helps.

I have a large Schefflera in my garden in Johannesburg. The tree is about 6m tall with multiple stems, and is about 20 years old. We occasionally get bad frost, and a few winters ago this tree lost all of its leaves. This had no ill effects, and it is looking as stunning as ever. They also take to transplanting quite easily. I'd like to try and propagate it - has anyone out there tried this from stem cuttings?
