Twisted Hazel: Does it always look 'unhappy'? -Mine always has slightly rolled leaves and I can never tell if it's ok.....Grows quite slowly also....I still love it though!-even when its bare!

I have just asked a question about a crazy filbert or twisted hazel, can I ask has your hazel produced any fruits? We were told when we bought ours that they were sterile and would never have nuts but we had 5 last year and I have counted 11 this year?
The insects really love the rolled up leaves for nesting in, so it is an eco freindly plant.

My one is quite young, so I would not expect it to produce nuts. My friend has one over 20 years old and it has never had nuts on it, either. Puzzle, this one.

Lack of water will also make the leafs twist, but it is also naturally that way.
Insects do seem to love the leaves, little too much.

Vf1 see my answer to you question the Corylus avellana L. 'Contorta' is not sterile - at least ours isn't.
Begoniamatt they are very slow growing to start with then suddenly take off!

Yes, the leaves are always a bit twisted, too. I love it in winter when it is bare, especially.
