I have some young trees growing in the 'wrong' places, ie from under the garage, in the garden wall, the middle of a mature hydrangea. I can cut them down but how do I get rid of the root? Thanks.

Keep cutting just below the surface of the soil. Depriving them of light should kill those off. Use a contact weed killer for the ones in the wall if you cannot pull them out with the roots. I answered this above but it seems to have come up here too?
