Wish to grow a hedge to a height of 7 foot in clay soil near woodland, evergreen fast growing. Sugestions please. Mike G

Don't know where you are in the country from a hardiness point of view, nor whether the situation is north, east or south facing, or very exposed, but my suggestion is Berberis darwinii. Not particularly fast growing, but not slow either.

Portugese Laural? Mine were planted in heavy clay in shade in 2008 (about 4 feet tall), they're a good 10' tall now and have made a brilliant hedge.
