Can you please advise me on low maintenance plants/small trees that take in a lot of water.I have just got extra slabs layed in my garden as I am wheelchair dependant and on the grass areas when it rains its like a swimming pool.thanks.

I'm afraid that even planting damp-loving plants won't get rid of your problem. You really need to get someone to improve the drainage, perhaps by digging a ditch and filling it with gravel, like a soakaway, or possibly laying pipes to take the excess water.
Is the soil clay? That can also be improved by digging in lots of compost and grit, as well as organic material.
