I'm looking into getting a composter for the garden. I can get a 220 litre plastic one cheaply through my council. Any thoughts on whether it's worth spending more on a bigger one? Perhaps a wooden one?

I have 3 static plastic compost bins. The Council ones often are on a frame to turn the contents. The expert advice is to let the micro biology do the work and do not turn the compost. I am 83 and able to lift the plastic bin off the compost quite easily, to remove the lower contents. Then the upper layer forms the bottom of the new load. Some advocate painting the bin with white emulsion in the summer to speed up the heating process.
Would recommend 'Compost' by Clare Foster £7.99

Several 'standard' size bins are better than fewer large bins as you can fill the first one and allow it to sit whilst you fill the next, and so on.
I used to prefer wooden bins but find that I am now happy with the plastic ones.

« Hi everyone, good to be back after being off for about a month. haven't been...
I have a plastic one it gets very hot and I find makes compost very quick compared to my wooden bins which take longer. But the bins are easier to empty and fork/turn over than the plastic one. I dont think its worth getting bigger ones as you have to wait even longer for them to rot down. The plastic one I mostly leave after adding an accelerator. The bins I start off one and when 1/2 full I turn it over into the other one I find I cannot do that with the plastic one. I also make leaf mould but this has to be kept cold to make it so I use open mesh bags for this.
