i have grown some butternut squash for the first time this year but some of the flowers have not developed into squash, is this normal or have i not done something i should have, also when /how do i harvest them?

thanks for the advice meanie. i've got one ready for harvest and one thats only a baby,but at least i got something and i got the seeds from one i bought at the supermarket,so they haven't cost anything and i got the pleasure of watching them grow!

All that I can say is well done if you have fruit to harvest!! This was certainly not the year to be growing butternut squash.........
I used to limit mine to two per plant just to get something to harvest. Cut them when they're the correct colour, not as big as you would like them to be or you may well lose them. They will keep for a fair while in a cool larder.
