Really, and not a flu brush ;-)? Thank goodness for some of the strange plant pictures on the site, it certainly expands the mind.

These have been planted all over Brighouse by the council they are quite pretty so I will be looking for some for next summer

You can buy seeds, Steve. GCs sell plants, but obviously it's much cheaper to grow your own! ;-)

Go and shake the tail and collect some seeds on the council. We pay enough rates, so a few free seeds is nothing in return.

Nice thought grannyb but spritz is right our town is full of cameras and with my luck I will be in trouble although it would be fun explaining to the local magistrate

Don't even THINK about it, Steve - I'm too far away to come and bail you out! :-/

if you pass the spot regularly see if you can catch the council gardeners digging the summer stuff up ready to do the autumn plantings. smile nicely and ask if you can have a 'dead' head. then collect the seed. I managed 6 healthy pelargoniums last year.

This is the grass that i saw growing in Brittany and posted a question about. I'm afraid I did acquire a seed head although i'm not sure it was mature enough! I have put it in an envelope and will hope for the best when i plant up in the spring. Fingers crossed.

That looks like ornamental millet to me - it's an annual. I can't think of its latin name.

I looked it up - it's Pennisetum glaucum and I think the one you have may be 'Purple Baron'.
