You can do it now, but I would say do not leave it much longer as Heucheras can heave during the winter. I will mulch mine in October which reduces the chance of them heaving and I am going to wait and divide them in the spring so they have the full season to get their roots established.

What does heave mean Drc?

They are 'lifted' by the cycles of freezing and thawing. Drc can probably explain more thoroughly.

That is my understanding too Lilc - in Northern climates. Also the extra compost gives the roots something to grow into in the spring if they have lifted at all.

Ok, I think I understand. Will that be the same if I lift and move next week sometime? I'm not fussy about dividing just now as that can wait. I have one that is totally being smothered by other plants...I forgot I had planted it in the front garden.

I think it will be fine to move it and remember to not let it dry out if we have any good weather? LOL. Mulch in October

yes. i split mine last week, was a very large one and only split into 2, they do look very sorry for themselves for a few days but the leaves perk up again.
