You can also prune a third off last years canes and you will get an earlier crop from them while the new canes grow for cropping in the autumn. Then cut the older canes right down after fruiting, leave the new canes to treat the same next year.

just done ours! cut all last years growth down to ground level, clear any weeds and await new growth, which will produce this years crop of delicious raspberries.......steve
