Remember not to mow next spring until at least 6 weeks after bloom, or you won't get blooms for 2013.

The best time to plant daffodil bulbs is now, September. When I am planting under grass I prefer to lift a turf of grass and plant several bulbs beneath it. Take your spade and cut round three sides of a square, about two spades width each side, cut horezontally an inch below the turf and then fold the square of turf back. Dig out two or three inches of soil; a wheelbarrow makes a good place to store the soil for a few minutes so that it does not mess up the rest of the grass; and then place several bulbs in the bottom of your excavation. Plant several bulbs in a nice tight group rather than the distance appart recommended on the packets, they look so much nicer. Replace the soil and the turf and tread the turf down firmly. Then do the same at a second location, etc. The planting locations can be side by side, a few inches appart or dotted all over your grass bank as you please.
