If you cut buddleia back to about 6" in spring it will still grow back to 6ft or more by the time it flowers

Dont cut B. alternifolia or B. globosa back that hard in spring, though. They bloom on year-old wood, so they should be cut back right after bloom. B. x weyeriana can be treated either way, but if pruned before spring bloom, it will bloom again quite late in summer, often in early fall.

Yes. I cut mine back by about half in the autumn, to avoid wind-rock, then hard back to healthy pairs of buds in the spring.
