I have had 3 pieris in different varieties. Although they have been very happy in large containers for a couple of years I have had one die this year and another one is starting to loose its leaves. Any ideas what I am doing wrong

Check the pots - turn the plants out and have a look. It might be you have invaders in there (vine weevil, etc.) or the plants are simply pot bound and need larger containers.

Pieris like acid soil, did you plant them with ericacious compost?
