Use a longer cut than you do in summer though.

Not yet. Normally its when the grass stops growing in late autumn. It varies year by year depending on growing conditions / weather

I try to get my last cut in in October but it depends on whether the grass is wet or not. I cut it the other day, it seemed dry, but when I was mowing it, it 'skidded' a bit and left a couple of mud marks. Not to worry, it'll recover.

I just keep cutting mine when it needs it and that can be up to the end of October or earlier depending how cold it turns, in mild winters I have cut it in January.

I've cut lawns as late as mid November some years. And if I've not been able to do it in October or November because of bad weather, often done it in January, during a dry spell of open weather, as Drc says. It's all down to weather conditions and if the grass is actively growing or not.

You can cut your lawn at any time of year, but not when the lawn is too wet or frosted, but in effect mowing is usually over by october, it depends what type of autumn we get, and wether the grass keeps on growing or not.
