I bought 2 Calocephalus plants yesterday, but don't know if these are hardy or do they need protecting through the winter. Can anyone help please.

I bought some last autumn in Lidl and they died during the winter, so you will need to protect them.

My RHS book says the alternative name is Leucophyta, and yours looks like L. brownii. I'm sorry to say that they're tender, and won't tolerate temps. under 0 degrees C. So you'll ned to overwinter them in a frost-free place, not outdoors.
