my butternut squash are just flowering and have very small fruit which are yellow on them - do I take these off
or will they swell up given time?
Also will flowers produce fruit or is it too late in the year?

I very much doubt you'll get anything more this year. I got some huge squashes off my plants this year, and subsequent flowers little fruits have come to nothing, and have withered and died. I think it would be a waste of time waiting. Everything gets dug up tomorrow!
