Hi there,
I bought this plant at a car boot sale the other day and no-one seems to know what it is! Can any help me? I'd really like to know more about it, ie how to look after it, it's a pretty little thing.

Yip, Winter Cherry. They grow well. Do not eat the fruits though as poisonous.

Thank you everyone for the swift and informative replies. It's very much appreciated and rest assured I'll not be eating the fruit and shall be keeping it well away from the cats! Good to know it's an indoor plant otherwise I think the chickens might have come off worse for having it in the yard!

I've never come across a cat that would even think about eating berries though so i really wouldn't worry about that.

There are Ornamental Peppers that look like this, but they usually have shinier, brighter green leaves, that are more the shape of an ace of spades. Simple solution: when in doubt, don't eat.

I put my Christmas Cherry outside every summer and it seems to thrive on it. I got the idea when I noticed that my neighbour in England actually had one growing in their front garden, which is fairly protected, and it happily survived winters in the ground. I haven't risked that here in the Czech Republic since winter temps can drop to -25 but it does enjoy the summers outside.
