Chalky soil
Kent, United Kingdom
I appear to have chalk soil, in some areas the ph readings are 6, in others off the scale(alkaline). What can I do to improve the ph balance and do I have to maintain the areas that are good already?

I have chalky soil Forkhandles69 and select plants that thrive /prefer alkaline conditions so sadly i dont have camelias, rhododendrons in the ground. But I do have a good range of plants.

Thanks for replying,
I found the bbc had an extensive list of alkaline loving plants, shrubs and trees, I guess pots are your only choice for camelias, well thats what I did.
My manure needs to rot a bit more, but I hear that chalky soil is great for veg

I have chalky soil and I use well rotted horse manure. I think it's quite acidic and it's good for the soil anyway.
