Aberdeenshire, United Kingdom
I moved to Aberdeenshire from Hampshire last year, quite near Inverurie. Can anyone help on what sort of perennials survive here. I've got a penstemon which is supposed to be hardy but I've got my doubts up here. Any advice would be welcome.

Welcome from me too, we live in Moray and there is little we couldn't grow if we wanted to, our focus is alpine and woodland plants. Hardy perennials will survive most winters in this neck of the woods.

Inverurie has a good garden centre and you will be able to see what is sold there. I live not all that far from where you are, only higher up on Deeside rather than Donside, and all the usual hardy perennials like lupins, foxgloves, aquilegias, poppies, lilies, etc etc do ok here, as do alpines. Have a look around local gardens to see what does well.
And welcome to Aberdeenshire!
