I have got two laurels in my garden in the ground. had them about 5yrs. early this year most of the leaves turned brown or black and fell off one of them. but now the other one, which was growing much better has started to wilt, like it does after a hard frost, except we haven't had any yet. any ideas?

It is a soil borne disease that is usually associated with old trees or hedges that have been in the ground sometime in the past. The only way to get round it is to remove the soil from the area, but how much of the area? That is the problem.

Suspects are usually, drought, waterlogging, disease. At 5 years in, drought should not be a problem. Waterlogging is a possibility but it could be honey fungus. If so, there is no cure at this stage.
