Cotinus coggygria ( Royal Purple) Has anyone successfully taken cuttings from this? I used to have one of these back in the UK, and I loved it and miss it sorely. I haven't found it on sale here, and am finding it difficult to buy, as 3 litre pots bought in the UK on shopping trips don't fit well into luggage for the flight home. Is it easy to take cuttings? I might have to speak nicely to some gardening friends on my next trip back, and take a damp jiffy bag with me.

Cotinus are notoriously difficult to propagate by cuttings, but are easy from seed although you will get a mixture of green /purple seedlings of which you can select the best. You could ask a friend to try and layer a cutting as this is often successful.

Thank you so much, Dgw. It's a shame, but out of the few friends we have back in the UK (all the rest have moved abroad like us)none has a cotinus. I shall have to look for the seed.

Oh Bilbo, you wicked dog! When you say "procure", you won't do anything untoward, will you? But thank you nonetheless! I must admit, if anyone had said that now would be a good time to take cuttings, I was going to be tempted to wander past our old house at some unGodly hour of the night next week with a pair of secateurs. I'd have asked the person who bought the place, but he was a hateful old ******* who wouldn't have said "yes".

Forgive me, Please, Bilbo, I can't think what came over me.
