Poor you - I sympathise! I am unfortunately an expert on badger and rook holes, so if you post a photo of your holes, I'll know those. :-((

Ah, he's burying various items like acorns, horse chestnuts, etc., for over wintering. Shame he'll forget where he's put them... a dog or a gun, they're about the only solutions.

Hmm, good point - squirrels usually cover their buried treasure. Although they're not very good at it, really - I can tell when they've been in my pots on the balcony, sometimes there's quite a deep hole. Sure its not birds?

No - we saw the squirrel digging - I hope they will stop as they reached the solid chalk each time and certainly haven't buried anything. Thanks for all the replies
