Can I grow plants from the berries (seeds within) from an evergreen plant?

I will certainly try this - thanks - the (red) berries are soft with a clear seed inside - they come from a very long thin conifer/type shrub.

That sounds like an Irish Yew. If so, the soft, red berry does not entirely cover the seed but holds in a cup-like manner? These should grow quite easily but it will take a long time to get decent sized plants. Still well worth trying.

Remember the berries are poisonous so wash your hands well after handling them

Bulbaholic - you have hit it on the head - the berries do indeed just cup the seeds - and now I know what it is.
I will certainly try - and if it takes time I will be patient. Thanks very much - Moon growe I will remember to wash my hands ! thanks to you too.

'Taxus baccata Fastigiata' if you want it's Sunday name, Sal.

And it is not a berry.....a berry has to have more than one seed. The yew berry is a highly modified female cone, and the term for it is an Aril...it will never catch on.

Which berries...? Most you can, squeeze off as much of the flesh as you can with your fingers. Then wash as the seed in a bowl of tepid water to remove the rest. Blot dry on kitchen paper store the seed in a plastic bag filled with dry sand and keep it cool until sowing time.
