pot contents

This is a pot I discovered lurking behind a shed, inherited from the previous owner. I think I recognise the yellow things as miniature daffodils, but would appreciate any suggestions as to the identity of the shrub-like invader which I will remove and plant in the garden. If identification is difficult, I'll wait and see if it flowers and then repost the question.

You're right about the minature daffodils but the shrub's a bit more tricky.
Looks similar to a Hawthorn to me. Can you get a closer picture of the leaves?

Hi Bernard. Seems you're still getting surprises from your new garden. It looks as if there is more than one plant there, but difficult to tell. The one which has roundish leaves could be (yet another) berberis. If it is all the same plant, then I admit defeat. It doesn't look like hawthorn to me.
Hope you keep getting nice surprises.

Are they prickly, Bernard?
I love the pot, too. You have really attractive pots, don't you! :-)

Thanks folks for your responses. I'll try to get a better photo of the shrubby bit (maybe wait for flowers?). Will it be best to submit it as a answer to this question, although I don't know if I can include a photo in an answer.
