Exam Question?

Nope, got asked it by my boss at work and cant find anything of it on the internet

Where do you work and why was your boss asking that particular question... in other words what is the context, I can't image he/she simply walked up to you and asked that specific question and walked away.

If its a genuine question my reply would be 'what needs clearing?' be it grassland for crops,or perennial weeds, bracken or even shrubby heathland

Not in any way trying to be funny, just curious as I have seen over the years many queries that get similar answers, why do members not answer a question if they think its for an exam, is it not allowed for some reason.???

I object to doing someone's homework for them as I think they should be doing research and learning it for themselves, not picking someone else's brains. Whenever someone asks an improbably vague question on here it sounds like the title they've been given for an essay or an exam question.

The question as it stands would need a lengthy essay to answer it, discussing the sorts of plants that may need to be cleared and different techniques that could be used for the various types, sizes and root systems, with their pros and cons.

If it was asked in a more specific way, with some indications of the plants to be removed (grass, perennial weeds, scrub, bushes, trees), the time frame involved - how soon it needs to be cleared, how big an area, manpower and equipment available, it could be answered in a few paragraphs. As it is it would take pages and pages to make a meaningful reply.

Hence the essay? exam question? homework? response.

Oh thanks Beattie, as I said I`ve noticed this happen before and was wondering why...

24 Oct, 2011

I think you are all amazing. I can't even understand the question.

24 Oct, 2011

Probably because it would have to have a huge answer.

If someone asked you "Joanii, how should I clear some brambles out of a flowerbed?" or "how can I turn my lawn into a vegetable plot?" you'd have some idea of how to answer them as the question is specific, not vague.

Totally agree Beattie and note we do not have a proper response from Frosty.

Lincslass - most of us are happy to give advice to folk - but if this is for an exam or a test then the person needs to discover their own answer...

This question seemed familar to me ... Jaybles asked virtually the same on 28 Feb ... Crazyjedi101 thought it may be for a D.A.R.T. College course ... seems the question has come around once more! . . . . .

Great sleuthing Shirley_tulip - or should that be "Shirley_nerine"? ;-) The question is identical, and the replies nearly so.

I googled "DART College" & found nothing helpful - is it some sort of agricultural / horticultural/ land management specialist training establishment?

Oh I know that Mg, it was the exam bit I was wondering about, I didn`t know whether we had an unwritten rule about exams that I wasn`t aware of, I `ve been here long enough to know that sometimes some answers get very abrupt answers, especially if asked abruptly, I can see Beatties reasoning and agree about them doing their own research although if they get stuck a little help doesn`t hurt as long as all the work isn`t done for them...

24 Oct, 2011

Hmm ... I shall revert to being a Tulip once more, Beattie! I know nothing about D.A.R.T. College either ... other than it appears to be based in Ohio . . . . .

Perhaps they do distance learning - correspondence courses as they used to be called.

Wow! You've changed in just a few minutes, Shirley! :-)

24 Oct, 2011

Ha ha, Beattie ... have to do things right away before I forget to ... :o(

24 Oct, 2011

Thanks and apologies from me Beattie,

It was the grammatical content that puzzled me.

However, I'm still amazed how members are able to reply to some very vague question.

We often have to make assumptions Joan... but this is just way too much!

How do I say thanks?
