i planted some spring bulbs about 6 weeks ago in containers and some of them are showing maybe i did not plant them deep enough should i put some more compost on them or when the realy cold weather comes they will draw back into the compost

Tulips are traditionally left to October/November before planting because they tend to start growing early and are then chopped down by an early frost. I agree with the advice given above.

I have muscari, crocus and little daffs all beginning to sprout. I will heap more compost on, but I suspect they will sort themselves out. They usually do.

Every year our trilliums put their noses up in autumn they survive everything the weather can throw at them and are always fine.

A lot of bulbs are showing this autumn partly to do with the weather and partly because they have not been planted deep enough. Yes add more compost to your container and next year plant at least twice and preferably three times the depth of the bulb. Oh and to answer the second part of your question once the bulb has sprouted it can't pull back into the soil.
