I have a miniature lilac growing in a sheltered border and it has come into flower this week (mid November). Will this be a problem, and do I need to do anything?

No, just leave it alone - lots of plants have begun flowering again due to the exceptionally mild conditions. As it gets cold, the flowers will, unfortunately, be killed if they're not finished already, but you can't do anything about it. Enjoy them while they're there.
