Could you recommend some plants for me please :-)
Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom
I want to plant fragrant, ideally flowering plants/shrubs just outside our patio doors so that we can smell them as we brush past them this summer (if we have a nice one of course!) The problem is that this part of the garden never gets any sun. It does get light but never direct sun.
I'm going to plant some Christmas Box and Lily of the Valley but otherwise have no idea, so any suggestions would be fab :-)

I have a honey suckle that is pretty much shaded all day long. It is evergreen and it is called Lonicera 'Mint Crisp' smells fantastic during the summer evenings.

Try planting Eau de Cologne Mint and Southernwood (Artemesia abrotanum) You only have to brush against it in Summer for it to scent a wide area.t

My favourite foliage scent in the garden is good ol Lemon Verbena (aloysia tryphylla). Foliage does fine in shade, and happiest in a pot so you can protect it a bit if necessary. Hesperis matrionalis has grown in shady bits of my garden with no problem, and the flowers once they come last a good time. What about Clematis × triternata 'Rubromarginata' for a climber - late flowering so easy to cut right back every year. Never grown it but looks interesting with marzipan scent.

Rosemarinus (Rosemary) ought to be in there somewhere.

Brilliant, thank you for some lovely ideas. I think I'll try to get these all in together somewhere!
