We're constructing a pond on a sloping site. The drop from top to bottom is about 8". To save having to level the area out, would it be acceptable to have the liner out of the water at one end, but disguise it with overhanging plants?

You could make the pond level with soil and then use cobbles to hide it or make the pond level and put soil and turf down to the water level and give it a natural look .

The rays from the sun will perish the plastic of the liner, therefore the liner needs to be covered. It would be better to level the ground properly for the pond and plant up the bank behind it.

Have you thought of building the side opposite the slope up by 8" which might be an easier option?

Why not build a little wall to bring in level then have a little waterfall into a smaller pond and pump it back up to the main pond?

Well, we read all of the helpful suggestions and decided to level the top all the way round. It wasn't as big a job as we had dreaded. Now we have to work out what to do with the sides of the pond which will be above the level of the water.................
Thank you for all your help.

A little wall on that side instead of the other one? A small rockery? Sounds a good position for a little waterfall or something.

you could have a sloping pond and then you could ski down it lol x

Thanks for the suggestions. The skiing sounds like a good idea, especially if we have a winter like last year's!

Previous question
You could do but better if you form a shelf or step around the pond below the final water level ,it can then be hidden completely and the shelf used for planting and letting wildlife in or out .
