It much prefers cool Mediterranean to moderate temperate climates, and suffers in humid weather over 37ยบ C.

Yes, Appolo, horny goat weed is Epimedium grandiflorum. I can seee why you might want to grow it but it prefers cool, moist shade so I doubt that it will be suitable for South Africa.
