Broad beans. I know this sounds crazy, but the soil in or vegetable garden is nicely moist and quite warm still, even in the first week of December, so would it be a complete waste of time, seeds and effort to plant broad beans, or should I try putting them in pots somewhere sheltered? I ask because a lot of farmers' suppliers seem to have them on sale right now.

We have shown that it is a waste of time sowing broad beans this early in the north of Scotland but it seems to work well for gardeners in the south of England. In a Mediteranean country I would have thought that December would be a good time to sow.

Thank you so much Mr B. Maybe not so daft after all. I planted in March last year, and it was really much too late.

How do I say thanks?
