I live in the suburbs of London and in June this year (2011) I planted an acacia baileyana. It's in a sheltered south-facing garden against a 6ft wall. Seeing how successfully Blyco's acacia has grown, I was wondering whether he protected it through the first winter by putting a mulch around the base or covering the foliage with a fleece? We had 2 degrees of frost last night and it promises to get worse!

Search for him by using the search box on the page, top right - when you find his profile, or anything by him, click on that, click on his avatar, which will take you to his profile page, and then you'll see send a message as an option at the top of the page on the left somewhere.

In the meantime, I would get a mulch of dry materials over the roots asap

Thank you Andrewr. Something like bark chippings or cocoa shells? They sell them in such huge quantities!

Yes, anything like that. Straw, old fern fronds - anything just to form an extra barrier from the frost and give them a bit of protection
