I would like a wildlife garden so I am going to plant some grasses but I also love bamboo and wondered if tis would positively or negatively impact my plans.

Have to agree with Madmum that bamboo wont encourage the wildlife and can spread if not kept on a tight rein. Wildlife tends to like things they ca neither nest in eat off of or both.

It's also incredibly invasive - even those that claim to be 'cump forming' so I would be very cautious about it.
For wildlife you would do well with native trees and shrubs, some wild areas as well as the nectar rich flowers etc.

If you want to know which plants are good for wildlife, see my 2nd blog. I have bought plants specifically with wildlife in mind, but I too have a bamboo. Altho' I must admit it was given to me, and I keep it in a big pot to stop it spreading.

I have 3 bamboos under the beech tree and they have been well behaved for 10yrs. never had runners and have slowly increased to x3 their original size. It took along time to find clump formers that were good. I had their names written down but sadly they are lost in the mists of time. I will get some photos to show you.
I have birds sitting on the stems prior to going to the feeder so they do make perches for them. When i cut dead stems down they go to make bee and lacewing hotels too.

I doubt that bamboo does anything for wildlife, unless you have giant pandas in your garden! lol It does look good though, and makes a lovely noise when the wind blows through it, so why not have it if the rest of the garden is wildlife friendly! Don't forget lots of nectar-rich flowers and things that produce berries and fruits for the birds.
