Why do I get whitefly on the fuchsia cuttings I have on the kitchen window sill? Is there anything I can do to prevent this please?

I have the same problem, fly all over my Brussel Sprouts. Have to wash them 6 times before cooking.
I know its the mild weather, but............
there must be something we can do in the Autumn to prevent this problem without using Chemical Sprays.

Is it marigolds they don't like? Or is that for keeping the carrot fly away?

DianeB spray your Brussels sprouts with a garlic spray that will deter the whitefly.

can i put a piece of garlic in with my cuttings inside moon grower?

You can try but it is unlikely to work the garlic spray is a systemic and deters the white fly... once you've got them on non edible plants and insecticide is needed. On veggies a good blast with the hose can often shift them then use the garlic spray so they don't return.

Ok, thank you.

line a colander with cling film, spread oil on it, place it over your cuttings..then tap them..a daily thing but they will stick to the film.

they seem quite attached to the leaves!! will they just fall off??

when you tap they should fly..if not squish em.

Thank you Moon grower. How can I make Garlic Spray?
Havent seen it in GC. Suggest crushed Garlic Bulbs in
water with washing up liquid, to stop it being washed
off in the rain.

To make your own garlic spray take several complete garlic bulbs (and a couple of chills too if you want) blend in a food processor with water. Dilute 1 : 10 with water with a little bit of washing up liquid to help emulsify.

The garlic spray is quite a good slug repellent as well if used at the right times apparently.

now that is definitely worth a try ~ thank you!

you will need to spray with an appropriate spray.
I suspect there were eggs on the stes that you cut the cuttings from. now they are in the warm they have hatched etc.
If you dont want to spray buy the yellow sticky strips and place in the pot with the cuttings.
