Hey all, quick Lilly question. My asiatic lily bulbs arrived a little earlier than I was expecting (as in today lol). Will they be ok left in the packaging (but kept damp) or do I need to pot them up asap? They are packed in sealed plastic bags with what looks like a little damp soil. I haven't opened them up yet.

Agree. Lily bulbs do not like to dry out too much, that is why the ones in the shops do not do as well as freshly dug ones.

Ok thanks, thats pretty much what I thought. I see a trip to the GC in my future for pots and compost lol. We've got a big Lilly pot, but it needs emptying out before I can pot anything up. I'd planned to deal with it in spring, ho hum just have to move up the schedule a little.
Do you think they will be ok till next weekend or should I go out one of the nights in the week to sort them (I'm away this weekend and at work all week)

they will be ok until next week. I often plant mine in 2-3lt pots and then transfer them to the decorativie pots after the spring bulbs have gone over.

Wow SBG that was a quick response. Thanks.
Oh thats good news. Could have been entertaining potting them up in the dark lol. You can imagine how much compost would end up anywhere but the pot lol.
I've just been thinking about potting them into the 2-3l pots, not sure I've got many though. I may have a trip to my nans see if I can pinch a few old pots, she has masses of them.
Thank you for the advice, it is much appreciated.

personally Id pot them up in damp compost in largish pots so the frost doent penetrate the pots. mine are in the unheated greenhouse and usually come through unscathed.
